making sure that your potential employer actually reads your CV

Our experience shows us that an employer is more likely to reject your CV if:

  • the skills and/or examples that the applicant has provided are not relevant and/or appropriate to the role that they’re applying for
  • it doesn’t sell the applicant or provide a true reflection of their character and/or their personality
  • it doesn’t demonstrate that the applicant has got all of the necessary skills, personal qualities and experience needed for the role that they’re applying for
  • the applicant hasn’t provided all of the information that their potential employer has asked for
  • the applicant has wasted precious ‘selling space’ by not planning the layout of their CV properly
  • the physical look and feel of the CV is poor
  • it contains too much waffle and not enough relevant detail
  • the text doesn’t contain enough factual evidence to support the applicant’s achievements and examples
  • the text contains grammar and punctuation errors
  • the text contains spelling mistakes.

Our CV guides are full of practical advice that explains how to avoid making these mistakes when you write your CV. Our guides also contain a number of easy-to-use frameworks that will help you to capture all of the information that you need in order to create a great CV.
